Yesterday I sat down, installed InkScape and worked on the new project logos for CDO and Net4j. Darn it: designing software and designing logos are two different things! Personally I liked this one:
But all my friends complained: "Too childish!!!"
I sat down again and tried something more honest.
Here is the new CDO project logo:
And here is the new Net4j project logo:

Eike,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your friends :P
I like very much the new logos. Personally I'd add some shadow to provide some depth, feels a bit flat.
Also I think it could be good idea to add reflections.
What do you think?
Cheers,
ViK.
Hi Eike,
ReplyDeleteif you're interested I can ask our graphics designer to work on the logos. She did the one for the ORMF project (eclipse.org/ormf) which I think is really good.
Be aware that she might come up with something completely different from your ideas just to show that programmers are complete losers at graphics design.
Achim
I respectfully disagree with your friends.
ReplyDeleteAchim,
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean you don't like my new logos?!!! Dear :P
Just kidding. I'd appreciate if she would like to give it a try. Does she need some further info? Should I call her?
Cheers
/Eike
Wayne,
ReplyDeleteHehe, that's the reason why in the future I won't ask my friends anymore :P
Achim,
ReplyDeleteI forgot to say:
1) Thanks for the offer!
2) The ORMF logo is nice ;-)
Eike,
ReplyDeleteof course your logos are great ... for a programmer :-)
Antje will contact you in the next few days to work out the details.
Achim
Achim,
ReplyDeleteThanky you very much! I'm looking forward to talk to Antje ;-)
All the best (also for Alexandra)
/Eike
Eike,
ReplyDeleteI like your new logos!
Ah, yes, but I'm a programmer :-)
Eike,
ReplyDeleteI like them new logos. They cry Eclipse, they use just one color which will come in handy in certain situations. Moreover a similar and good looking black and white version could easily be derived from the color version. I personally wouldn't add too much shadows, gradients and other bling.
Cheers,
Markus
Markus, Thank you for the arguments! They are good ;-)
